Vocation

Our Christian families are seed bed for vocations. It is were vocation springs from. Priests, Religious Nuns and Brothers normally come from good Christian families and backgrounds. Vocation is a call from God which requires our positive responds towards the salvific mission of Christ. On our part there is need for collective effort towards vocation’s generation, sustenance and maintenance.

There is increase in the number of vocations to priesthood and religious life. Many young boys and girls aspire to become priest and religious. However, vocations to religious men who are Brothers are so few or at times nonexistent. The Archdiocese of Gulu carries out intensive formation in order to get best qualities. It is only after a candidate has proved to be serious in his/her vocation that he/she can be admitted to priesthood and religious life. This is after a serious scrutiny and consultations done. There is prayer and continued support to vocations to priesthood and religious life.

The formation to religious life last four years after a certain basic standard: one year a period of aspirancy, one year a period of postulancy, two years period of Novitiate, and then finally a candidate is accepted to profess the religious vows for the first time. After at least six years one is able to make perpetual vows and commit himself/herself for life.

• All parishes should have Vocation’s Team.
• The Diocese should allot some money to run the Vocation’s Office according to the planned activities.
• Parish priests and Curates should get more involved in the Vocation’s Animation or promotions.
• The seminarians on holidays should engage themselves in productive activities which can help them to raise money to support their parents in the areas of fees or cost sharing.
• The Vocation’s Director be given an Office space and a vehicle.
• The minor seminary need more senior, qualified and well paid teaching staff to ensure good academic performance and meet the require stand

• Extensive and intensive vocation’s promotion in Families.
• Attracting the youth with good examples.
• Radio apostolates.

• All parishes should have Vocation’s Team.

• In the month of January – February, there is Vocation’s Animation in the schools and parishes by the Vocation’s Team of the Archdiocese of Gulu.
• The month of June when the seminarians come back for the long holidays and after the reports from the various seminarians, theirs is installations are to the orders of ACOLYTE AND LECTOR.
• In the month of JUNE and JULY, there is DIACONATE and PRIESTLY ORDINATIONS. For the Deacons all in the Cathedral and Priesthood in the respective parishes.
• Late September before the seminarians report back to the seminaries, there is a week dedicated for the following activities; – Election of GAMSA new office Bearers and Picnic in a venues of Choice.
• In the month of November, the vocation’s Director Visits the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Gulu in their different seminaries.
• In December, there is filling forms (interviews), in both Gulu and Kitgum Vicariate for those candidates to join the seminary.
